An Instrument of Peace

During staff meeting today we were given an exercise to spend some time in prayer and listen to what God was speaking to us. The following prayer is something that God laid on my heart. I really hope that this is how I can live my life. I know that so often I fall short, but it is definitely something to strive for. This prayer is originally by St. Francis of Assisi and I think it rings as true today as it did then.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Wow, what an amazing prayer. What are some ways that we as Christians can be an instrument of God's peace? Let me know what you think.
